Hi,
I wondered if I could ask if any of you can recommend and decent hotels on Rome.
I intend taking my wife there in march next year, so any recommendations re decent hotels would be much appreciated...
Thanks to any of you that take the time to reply...

Andy,
Hotel De Russie. It's one of the Rocco Forte Hotels. Very nice - Have stayed there twice in the last eighteen months.

We stayed at the Aldrovandi Palace a few years back, lovely hotel and restaurant, and nice walk into town.

We stayed at the Hotel Villa San Pio earlier in the year and couldn't fault it. Great service, rooms, food and position. They made us feel like kings and will stay there every time we go to Rome again.
The restaraunt manager Stefano, was particularly good.

Just looked at the site for the Hotel Villa San Pio and it really does look nice with some special deals for 2006 too.
The last time I stayed in Rome I ended up in a so called 4 star hotel near the Pantheon (name escapes me) that was more like a borderline 2 star but was in a neat location. I wish I had known about the San Pio then!!
Once Easyjet release their flights for April I may well book a long weekend.
Cheers

i would sleep in a gutter if i had to. i love Rome. Fawlty Towers is a "decent" hostel, but i'll splash out for better next time.

How much you want to spend is quite essential, as prices vary highly.
Most guides will call the area around Stazione Termini the city centre, but I generally feel that the real heart of the city is around Navona/Pantheon/Campo de'Fiori.
We stayed in Hotel Rinascimento two years ago. Would have preferred it to be slightly more to the east, I thought it was on the steep side (160 euros per night) and the room was small. By far the cleanest hotel room I had ever seen, however.
