Now I am senior

Posted by: Jono 13 on 24 July 2007

I know that at 44 I have become a Veteran cyclist and now I am a Senior member.

Hurrah!

What does life hold for me now I wonder?

Sorry Jono, but physically it is all down-hill from now on, and eventually you will feel that your mind is longer quite as sharp either!

I find I worry less about the senior member status than the senior moment incidents that seem occur all too often these days!

Also you may start to admire the qualities of Volvo Motors!

Kindest regards from Fredrik

Despite my comments on a thread in the music room, I am not anti-Volvo. My son played the same instrument as you and the Volvo was the only vehicle that comfortably carted him, his instrument and assorted family members simultaneously. However, I was in mid 40s when the first one rolled onto the drive, so you may have a point!

Dear Chris,

I am a tremendous admirer of the Volvo, but would nevetr had got one except for carting the bass about!

Mine is eighteen years old now, and has no rust, and not many dents! It runs like a sewing machine!

Mine is 9 and a half with 170k on the clock and is now in the capable hands of my bass-playing son!

sorry to disagree but at 51 I found myself (deliberately before anyone asks!!) at 24,000ft in the Himalaya....although to be fair, 12 months later, I don't now recall much about it! [Fredrik smiley]

Cheers

Dear Jim,

I am physically in better shape than I ever was before, but I determined to make an effort, and start a fitness regime off, last November. If I had done this in my teens then I would have been much better at a younger age, and with fewer aches and pains in the meantime!

Basically I try to do at least 40 press-up and twenty pull-ups a day. And a little work with weights. For the first time in my adult life I am free of back pain. It can be done.

chris, that's funny, my son is studying doublebass and drives his mom's volvo, which will accept the instrument after a seat has been lowered. i had given him an old benz diesel, but that solution was a little less desireable - out through the sunroof ... luckily that one was demolished, so he ended up w/ the volvo. artie

ps - i too look forward to that exhilarating moment when i become a SENIOR MEMBER! then i can refrain from posting all but the most succinct helpful yet fun posts (i guess nothing will change).

Munch
These days he plays very little double or even electric bass. He discovered the joys of Cubase while he was still on a choral scholarship as a treble, and since then he has developed a considerable talent as a composer/one man band. He uses various Macs as his "instruments". He has his own record label (www.junki-munki.co.uk) and you can download his stuff as MP3s. To be honest, it's not my thing, but then I don't think we are meant to like our children's music are we?

Before the Volvo estate I had a Peugeot 605. His half size bass could just fit in the passenger seat if it was reclined, then Patrick sat behind me. The Volvo meant his mother could come to gigs too!

The main advantage to Senior Membership, which is not widely known, is that it qualifies you for 20% discount on any Naim equipment. Demand it next time you visit your dealer.

Having two small children, 5 and 9, helps to keep you on your toes. They can run and run, and talk and talk.

now it is a question of "can i find the club," and if so "do i want to go in?" although he plays some "legit" gigs, too - i was really impressed a few months ago by an evening of music he produced, all played by fellow students, from baroque to you name it and he played in each piece.

chris - and with that 20% discount, i shall be able to get my 300 for about $9,000 then ...

It would be a bargain at that price! The pound sitting at over 2 dollars must be making this stuff even more costly for you guys.
Posted on: 26 July 2007 by fidelio
chris, just checked the price, not sure why: 11,300 usd for the 300 w/ ps. so i was approximately right - 20% off w/ my "senior discount!" whew. that's actually more than i paid for my ford pickup truck brand new .... artie
