Very sad news.

Just spotted the news on the Beeb web-site. Time to dig out and enjoy the good stuff again.
A sad loss indeed. Now John can catch up with his old friend Nick Drake.

This is the saddest possible news.
I cannot begin to put into words how much this mans work has meant to me.
Absolutely unique talent. God Bless you John.

What Simon said, time to fire up the early Island stuff.

very very sad news. Like Simon I cannot find the words to express what his work has meant to me. My thoughts are with Theresa and the rest of his family.

Saw this on the BEEB site late this afternoon. Had many a drink with him in the 70's and saw him many times in concert.
Great artist and one of a kind.

John will be greatly missed...a real talent!
I have loved his concerts over the years and playing his albums from way back in the 60's and all the way to the present day.
My all time favourite and most often played is "The Church With One Bell" - so moving, deep, full of soul and fealing (on vinyl of course)
He was one of the best and probably the most moving performer I have seen or ever heard over the last 40 years!
Rest in peace John,
Richard

What a loss. Surely one of the most talented musicians of a generation.
A man who truly saw the music industry for what it is and never compromised his talent, unless in ways detrimental to his own health. He lived the life of a troubled genius and I will forever regard him as such.
Fondest memories John.

We were listening to some of his music only the other night.

A life lived to the full, I am sure he has very few regrets. Loved by many. He will sing forever in many peoples hearts.

I remember one of the highlights of the Finsbury Park Fleagh's in London was to catch John playing - if memory serves his limo was unavoidably delayed and I'm not sure that he ever managed to make it to the show!!
That aside, I can but agree this marks the passing of one of my musical icons from Solid Air, Bless the Weather and Glorious Fool he produced some music which just grabbed your soul.

Having read a biography of John recently and wondered how on earth he survived so long, this isn't unexpected news. But it's dreadful, terrible, saddening news all the same. One of the World's greatest singing and songwriting talents has gone and I doubt we'll ever hear his like again.
Best wishes John. May you never....
