250 to 135's

Hello All

I have come across a great deal on Ex-Dem 135,s that would replace my 250 in my current system: LP12/Lingo/LVIII/17D2, CDI, 82/Hi-Cap x 2/250, SBL's.

I Recently asked the forum if I should change the CDI to a CDX, and the consensus was that unless I went for a XPS as well it wouldn't be much of an upgrade. It was whilst ringing around that I came across the 135's.

So will my system sound better because of the 135's extra control over my speakers, or worse because of the CDI being a limiting factor?

Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

In my case it made a significant improvement also; and I have a lesser front-end (CD3.5 + snaps2 and 32.5 + hicap) than you.

I certainly didn't find that the 135s made the system sound worse by revealing flaws up front. Rather, I was suprised to find upon comparing the 250 with 135s in my system that at volume levels where I had previously thought the 250 had everything under control, it was in fact giving out (especially at the bottom end) and starting to distort. I didn't notice that anything was missing/distorted until I plugged in the 135s. This was true even at moderately loud (11 o'clock on the 32.5) levels.

I should say I have difficult speakers (Isobariks), which highlight power differences

Darren,

Not a CD person myself but did the 250 to 135 comparison when they first came out with a similar front end (LP12/Ittok/Karma) and 32.5/Hi-cap driving Isobariks. Major improvement, and that was cold, new straight out of the box against a well run in 250.
