Hi
Has anyone got any recomendations of speakers that work best close to the wall? I will be driving them with CD2/NAC72/NAP250/HiCAP
thanks

Thanks Tom.
I forgot to say that my budget is not much more than £700. My room is approx 4.5 metres x 4.5 metres would SBL's be to big?

If you can get a pair of second hand SBL's for £700 they would be ideal!

I have IBL's (MKII) at the moment and find them too harsh in my room (wooden floors etc) Am I right inassuming that the IBL's share the same tweeter as the SBL? If so I am worried that the SBL's would be as harsh or would the extra SBL bass ease this?

Wrong person to ask as I find SBL's to harsh and aggresive which is why I have a pair of Neat Ultimatum's.

What I would say is try and listen to a pair of SBL's and make your own mind up.

I have CDX/82/250/Kans.
Kans like to go as near the wall as they kan get.

ATC SCM-7's with stands should fall within your budget.

If you can find a pair of Kan IIs in good condition, and don't hanker after deep bass, you will have a great system and a few hundred pounds left over for lots of music.

You could try (a home demo is what I think) JMLab Cobalt 816 (maybe S/h). They work well near the wall and you'll get everything. I intend to up-grade my actual Kan to them and have a 5x3 m room and also forced to use them near the back wall.
Good luck,

But Paul............

I think the new Kans are rear ported hence should be placed away from rear wall.

I have the same small-room-problem, and have used Rega Kytes and ELAs, and most recently tried Dynaudio but I don't think they like getting too close to the wall.

But I must say a pair of used SBL would be ideal here.

I certainly wouldn't buy SBL's unheard in your system/room. SBL's are a fantastic speaker (I own some) but if you find the IBL's too harsh in your room you might find the SBL's similar. They are not known as a laid back speaker and your room may be emphasizing the upper mid such that the SBL's would sound harsh also.

I have to second that. If you listen to a SBL and fall in love with what it can do, all the other speakers probably wont come close to an SBL.

Having said that, i have to qualify that i havent heard SL2, NBL or DBLs before, but i have heard a number of speakers from other manufacturers.

Hi,
If 20 cm can be regarded as 'close', the Linn Ninkas' is worth checking out. The polymer stands are optional, but add a LOT of musicality.
