DVD Remote broken?

My DVD5 remote seems to be broke. It controls the AV2 ok, but not the DVD. I know it is the remote as it behaves the same on another DVD5/AV2 setup, and the remote for that setup works ok on mine.

Any diagnostics, resets or other ideas other than get a new one?

PS Yes, I did change the batts!
