Has this country done something to you Nick? If not shut up your anti British (or is only English) whining.

Hope we get saved by the rain again

Fantastic! England have a wicket! Now Australia are in trouble, so much so that Ponting has called the batsmen off to spare them any more punishment!
Posted on: 11 July 2009 by Chillkram
Ah, looks like the rain may save the Aussies after all, Steve.

I think in BIGH47, we have the type of boor to which I was referring. Enjoy your delusions an may the better cricket side (Australia) win.

Who's the boor? I don't knock one side only, which is what you have done, nothing except negative comments about ANY English team.
I note you use the royal WE , denoting you are ONLY one with that opinion.

Your sense of humour is obviously different from most people on this (worldwide) Forum. Would you like some more rope or a larger shovel? Please let me know when your comedy tour starts, I'll listen outside the telephone box to your ranting.
If you are so brave and articulate, please explain why you are anti-british.

He won`t because he is a little big man. I have just checked all of his previous posts through his profile and have come to the conclusion that he is a complete tosser.

I was trying to be diplomatic, leaning towards optimistic. Time will tell...

Sorry mate but i am not very good at diplomatic, the mrs also told me i would not be a very good copper because the questions would always come second

Sometimes a big heave into cow corner can be very effective

Thank goodness for the rain , we are being given a demonstration in cricket tactics by the Aussies .

I am anti-British sport because of the fans it engenders. A rabid nationalistic approach which requires that any team MUST be villified. Ponting booed to the wicket!! Everything is now reduced to a football fan (sorry vandal/thug) approach to the game.
It gets to the point where even the players when interviewed cannot get beyond the 'if it had gone in the net it would have been a goal' comment. Compare and contrast the interviews at the end of C5 programme last night with the Australian North and then Collingwood.! despair. Collingwood was barely able to offer other than inarticulate truisms.
The England cricket team is at best second rate, supported by a lunatic Barmy Army. I see no reason to align myself with them and other supporters.

Although I'm usually optimistic I'm inclined to say I don't think we'll win this one. Even if the rain holds off and we do clear the deficit by lunch as expected, I don't think we'll be able to build up a big enough lead to put the Aussies back in until after tea ... then with further rain forecast we simply won't have the time to dismiss them.
However a draw in the first match is not the end of the world, as 4-0 series win is still perfectly acceptable.
I have to agree with former Australian captain, Ian Chappell, when he said If the England players hadn't got out then they could have posted a score of 700 or more.
BTW does anybody know the words to the Barmy Army's chant. I think I picked up the first word was Barmy, but couldn't make out the rest of the lyrics.

PS - Nick, in case you're interested, there is Slazenger I-Blade Paul Collingwood Limited Edition short handle, medium weight cricket bat going half price on Amazon: ideal for articulate cover drives to the boundary.

That was his team mates giving him some stick. The whole crowd stood to applauded his magnificent innings. There is healthy rivalry between the fans: no animosity.quote:Ponting booed to the wicket!!

Nick
Whilst I respect that you are entitled to hold any view you wish to, I would like to make a few observations if I may.
You have antagonised many people on here who are only wishing to support and follow the progress of their national teams and to do that with wit, humour and friendly banter between rival fans. You do this by lobbing hand grenades and retiring to a safe distance. You make sweeping and sniping remarks that can be quite insulting to the largely intelligent and tolerant bunch on here by making generalisations about English/British teams and their supporters:
And
Of course there are supporters, as you describe, amongst the large populus of sports fans in this country, but these are in the minority and no different from what you will find in other countries too.
If you really wish to change the attitude of this minority, why not encourage and join in with those of us who treat it as a bit of fun, whilst enjoying the friendly rivalry between opposing supporters. It is not unnatural to want your team to beat the opposition. This is the same across the world. I was watching a programme on the Aussie cricket team the other day and Steve Waugh (I think) was saying that it was drummed into him as a kid that you must not let the Poms win anything under any circumstances.
The point is Nick, that you should not be surprised that you upset people with these sorts of remarks when, actually, we are enjoying ourselves with the humour and banter and are as far removed from the fans you describe above as it is possible to be. If we do descend into excuse making from time to time it is because we are constantly disappointed in our 'second rate' teams when measured against the best in the world. In fact, I think we all recognise that the Aussies are the best team in the world and a joy to watch for any sports fan, however, if the Ashes is a 'no contest' on the field, at least we can keep up an element of competition on here through banter and witty exchange - just witness the subtle humour of ROTF in the post above!
Finally, it is no surprise that the interviews of North and Collingwood were in contrast. One was a member of a team who had just left the field after a record-breaking performance, the other a member of one that had just taken a serious beating and wondering how they could possibly avoid a very humbling and crushing defeat.
Nick, I don't wish to be confrontational, just to explain why you are upsetting people. A different view is, of course, more than welcome, it is how it is expressed that is the issue.
Respectfully
Mark

No, I was mistaken, clearly it was beyond them. Looks like it will be 4-0 to England after all, ROTF!

Arise, Sir Monty!

The draw was always the most likely result to me, as I couldn't see us bowling the Aussies out before the closequote:Looks like it will be 4-0 to England after all, ROTF!

Monty and Jimmy and Swannie and Collie - heroes: brilliant performance.
All together now - 4-0, we gonna win 4-0 ...
