Yippee.

I think this England team must now be the greatest test team of all time and will go on to easily retain the Ashes in Australia with a series whitewash.

Winning the Ashes in South London feels like this.

dont know if any of you watched the shane warne feature during the break in play today showing 2 young bowlers his skills....thought it was fascinating and made me think how glad i am that he is no longer playing against england.

I agree, Dave. I think that Australia, despite the fantastic batsmen they had 4 years ago were lucky to have in Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne, two of the greatest bowlers of all time and in fact in Warney's case, probably the greatest ever bowler.
Now they are gone they lack someone to really turn the game when they are up against it.
They are back with the mortals again!

Here I am Mark! Very sorry, I've been preoccupied with work matters lately.
There's no denying it, when it came to the crunch, you beat us in every department. A well deserved test and series win.
Time for you to hoist that fish!
Steve

Very pleasing, although two inconsistent teams playing well below the levels of 2005.
Ricky ponting is right to be furious at the pitch mind you. If it had been properly prepared no way would he have been run out....

Right, once we've given Collingwood his obligatory medal, can we drop him for the series against SA? Seems to me Trott at three, Peterson at 4 and Bopara at five is as good as any middle order around.
Not sure I would drop Collingwood and keep Bopara. Bopara's average for the series was less than Anderson's, and he took one or two wickets as well!

You may be right, but Collingwood played a gutsy knock of 74 to rescue the test in Cardiff when all the recognised batsmen went missing. Actually, Cook is the player I am most disappointed in. His average was lower than Colly's for the Ashes series.
Maybe they all need clearing out.

On another point, whilst everyone is talking about Broad in terms of the successor to Freddy as the great next all-rounder, Swann actually posted both the 4th highest aggregate and the 4th highest average batting scores of the team, as well as the second best wicket total. May not be so clear cut. Clearly there is a bias towards the fast bowling all-rounder.

The sad thing is that they've only played 2 or 3 good games all year and they'll end up getting the team award at the BBC Sports Personality.

Flintoff's batting has been poor for quite a few years, definitely not a number 6 and struggling to bat at 7. His bowling was still excellent but he didn't take as many wickets as he should have done, not sure why, he was often Englands best bowler. He was a very good player but not in Botham's class.
The emergence of Prior (whose keeping was much improved this series), Broad and Swann as the lower middle order means that the team overall looks well balanced with five specialist batsmen and three other bowlers giving a five man attack.

I agree. Drop KP in for Collingwood, find a decent replacement for Freddie and it begins to look a very good side. Pity about Tres, what a waste of talent.
I still have doubts about old "dinger" he looks a bit fragile to me.

Yes, Belly's a reserve, shouldn't be a first pick. Bopara's the future, they should stick with him.
Bowling's a problem, though. Broad, Anderson and Onions? The last two are more suited to English conditions than SA. There's also Harmy, so faute de mieux. Swann and Rashid for spin.
Rashid is probably an even better bat than Swann, may get a chance to see this in the one dayers.
We are definitely lacking a quickie though. Onions, Anderson and Broad are not really going to unsettle batsmen on true but pacy wickets (such as South Africa).
