How to use a score
Posted by: mikeeschman on 07 December 2008
From time to time in the music room, the question is asked : What can you learn from a score?
i am learning to use scores in earnest for the first time.
my first thought was that before using the score, i would listen carefully, as many times as it took, to see what structure i might be able to hear on my own. then when i got a-hold of a score, instead of being faced with a swirl of black dots, i would have specific things to go looking for.
from that modest beginning, i hope to learn the whole piece.
i'm working on the hindemith mathis der maler right now.
