What brings you joy?

Posted by: JWM on 18 May 2007

I'll kick this one off...

For me at the moment ...

Work stopped five minutes ago, Friday 3.30pm, and won't start again until Monday 12noon. So, almost three whole days - my first break since October '06 - to be spent (1) eldest daughter's birthday party this afternoon/evening; (2) collecting my freshly-serviced 82 tomorrow morning; (3) Twickers on Sunday for what could potentially be the greatest ever game of club football - with Chillkram and JamieWednesday and hopefully finding a way of meeting up with Brian Moore Flyfisher too.

The only spoiler is the blo*dy trains being up the shoot, so it's lemonade 'cos of having to drive...

I wish you all joy too.

Hearing that a 555 is unexpectedly available for delivery next week!

Finally selling my apartment in Spain yesterday, to fund said acquisition!

Joy or apoplexy in equal measure surely Howard?

Not a day goes by without my daughter bringing a smile to my face.

My grandson, and the kindness of strangers.

Unlooked for human kindness, and also being gentle, my friends, who make me smile inside [and also can unintentionally be the cause of heart ache - one goes with the other, because if I did not care it would not matter], music, and last, but certainly still considerable, being happy at work.

J**z, Frank!

I forgot about the pleasure that the subjects contained in that thread bring! Somewhere near the top of the list too! Bols [Polish!] later methinks, as it is Friday and I am in a good mood!

And another is reading this Forum [the only one I look at, after a viscious little arguement on the BBC Radio Three Forum, which I contibuted to only once. My first post was right, "in fact," and I was thoroughly insulted because the other contributor did not like chapter and verse on a situation I had first-hand knowledge of - ie. the numbers and ages of the members of the Hereford Cathdral Choir!], which is occasionally frustrating but usually great fun. Always something new to learn for sure!

But seriously folks.....

Probably more than most things meeting people. I'm fortunate in that my work involves getting to know people form all over the place. Even outside of that it can happen in the most unexpected circumstances. This morning was about to drive off after booking the Boss's car in for an MoT when I was flagged down by an elderly gentleman looking a lift into Larne. Turns out he was on HMS Malcolm in WW2 and saw the Hood go down. After that in submarines, SAS and then took to the stage. Performed all over the world as a magician and at showjumping events with his kids. Retired now, touring Scotland in a vintage camper van and breeding/showing chickens. Spent an unplanned 2 hours talking to him (mostly listening) and totally screwed my plans for the day. Anyway, turns out he only wanted to go to larne to call the AA because his van expired after passing it's MoT! So we called teh AA on my mobile and I drove him back to await them. In return he's offered me a pair of Rhode Island Red Bantams to add to my menagerie.
Friday mornings don't come much better than that.

Regards,

Willy.

When my wife smiles at me, for whatever reason.

When something unexpected happens that is beyond expectation in a good sense.

When I surprise myself by doing something I thought I couldn't.

Watching my son play cricket and the friendly competative nature of an 11yr old - the term it's not the winning just the taking part applies in no small measure

Going home to see the children. Going to work to get a way from the children. Being able to work for myself, alone, with my music on all day, enjoying what I do so much that I don't want the working day to end. But I also want to be;
Going home to see the children. Going to work to get a way from the children.

I particularly love going to a good cozy pub with a mate for a few beers without a deadline to be somewhere else afterwards.

My wife who is one of the few really good people on this planet.

My daughter who is so beautiful and perfect it hurts my heart.

My new born son who is all I ever wanted and more.

Standing on the first tee, removing the cover on my driver, teeing it up and spanking a PROV1X straight out of the screws and watching it land exactly where I had planned. Rare but god the feeling!!!

Cheers Karl

I did get joy from seeing the vile Mr Pigs demise from hifi fora. If ever there was a triumph of good over evil, that was it. I was happy to have played a small part in kicking that useless turd off the hifi planet.

I also get joy walking around the Spanish village were I have bought my shack. The way of life out there may be slow but it is a joy.

Seeing my grandchildren. It makes getting old worthwhile.

Riding my motorbike .. it is something special.

Listening to Sarah Brightman half sloshed on whisky, the ultimate non sexual high.

Just surviving another day.

My wife .. the best thing that ever happened to me.

Regards

Mick

In common with many on here, going home to my family and having a laugh with my children.

The most joy I can ever remember was on the bus home from watching my daughter being born. She was my first and I was just floating all the way. I was bursting with pride and just wanted to shout out to everyone "I'm a dad!".

I love spending time with my friends, sharing a glass or two of red wine and talking rubbish.

I love sitting at home on a weekend listening to music, and becoming so utterly absorbed in it that I drift off into a semi-conscious state and completely forget about work-stresses.

And I love watching rugby and football on tv or preferably live with friends to share some good-natured banter.

Went for a run today and felt really good after a year of injuries. Experienced "runners high", a sensation of running fast with no effort .Stopped for a rest on old bridge over a river and a kingfisher flew by.Just fantastic !

Dear Mick,

Unless I get the unfortunate reference wrong [as I understand it], Lord Fritz, of Berlin, retired voluntarily, and the resiganation, much to his Lordship's surprise, was accepted rather promtly!

Before anyone accuses me of mentioning a former member, I must add that whilst I often [very often] did not agree with him, I totally admired his style, and his certainly considerable use of the privelege of free speech!

In true journo-style, I shall refrain from disclosing my [very good] source for this infirmation...

ATB from Fredrik

PS: Fritz, eccentric post being absent in th4 Rubber Room is the reason I dive into the Music Room first these days, though 19/20 times I have nothing to add!
