allae - what does it mean?

I've noticed a surprising lack (inasmuch as one can notice something that isn't there) of discussion about the name of the new naim - 'allae' (see main site news page).

Course I'm probably looking in the wrong place and it's probably all been sorted out under a topic on Formula one camera equipment or something.

Anyway, if anyone knows what an allae is or could be, perhaps they could post here. It looks worryingly Scottish to me. And then there's the italics...
