CDi with CDM9

Posted by: Igor Zamberlan on 28 October 2002

Hi (long time since my last post here)

A friend of mine (who for some weird setup problem cannot post here) has bought a s/h CDi with the CDM9 transport (so a late or a refurbished one) and he has some concerns about the operation of the transport.

He's having some troubles with CD-Rs, esp. at the end of the disc, and, most of all, he's asking me if it's normal that, on powering down the CDP, the laser head bangs against the end stop and returns to the original position.

It's a long time since I had a CDP with a CDM9 transport (a Micromega Duo CD3) and I can't remember if this is normal. Any insight from forum members or Naim itself?

Regards

Well I can't vouch for the CDM9 transport because mine's still on its CDM4 after ten years (anyone else?). If the trouble is reading CD-R at the end of the disc, I might say it is the CDR itself. Either don't record to its limit, or try burning at x1 speed. Good branded media should help too. As far as the laser head hitting the edge when the machine is turned off, the usual advice is 'do not turn it off'. As far as I know it is quite normal for this to happen.

Hope this is useful.
