Newbie help with a Nait 3 and NAP 140

Posted by: mystik on 14 January 2003

I am looking to buy a NAP 140 power amp to add to my Nait 3. Do I need to do anything to my Nait 3 to get it running? Do I need the same version as mine (ie front green lit logo recent style)

Thanks alot.

You'll need to convert the Nait 3 to become a preamp first. Bring this to your dealer so he can perform the necessary mods.

The mod include disengaging the pre-pwr section altogether, and adding a pre-out din socket.

When this is done, you can connect the Nait 3 to the NAP 140 via a din cable...

I think the old and the new versions are compatible. Give it a try though, if you can get them both.

All opinions are solely my own and not forceful in any nature.

While the Nait can be rewired to serve as a preamp, it is likely to be financially beneficial to sell the ait and buy a used 62/92.

A 62/92-140 is a great combo. You might even be able to trade the Nait for a 62/SNAPS....

Regards.

I made the same thing with mine and added an old style NAP 140 and after some time a HiCap.
It really does worth every penny in sonic improvement. But the moddification must be made by your local/nearest Naim distributor. Recently I homemade my own Fraim which considerably improved the whole sound.

I converted my Nait3 to a 92 to work with a 140.

But when upgrading I also had to convert it back to a Nait3 again to sell it quickly and at decent price.

Sell the Nait3, buy a 92, 32.5 or 72, it's quicker and cheaper, and if you go for the latter options, better sounding too.
