32.5 connection question

Posted by: Steve G on 22 May 2001

I recently upgraded the amp in my bedroom system from an Arcam Alpha 1 to a used 32.5/110 combination (a vast improvement and a bargain at 250 quid).

Currently I'm using a Chord Cobra 5pin-DIN to 2 RCA cable to connect my Micromega CD player to the pre-amp's Tuner input. From what I've read I'd be better off using the Aux input for CD but this has 2 BNC connectors and I've no appropriate cables. Can anyone suggest a supplier for 2BNC-2RCA cables? A convertor cable would also be nice so I can connect a turntable at a later stage.

I briefly put the 32.5/110 (plus a SNAPS) in to replace the amps in my main 92R/90.3/Credo system and it sounded pretty good. If anything I'd have said the 110 controlled the speakers better so I can sense a power-amp upgrade looming for my main system...

when you eventually add a turntable later, PLEASE! do not use a BNC adaptor. Get the tonearm lead re-terminated with BNC plugs.

Mixed opinions on using BNC in favour of DIN. I personally have found improved performance when sourcing from RCA-terminated sources.

The 'rule' seems to be - if it's a DIN source, use DIN. Other, suck it and see.
