Antony And The Johnsons

The new issue of Mojo contains a rave review of "I Am A Bird Now" and a feature which describes Antony as the best singer to emerge since the late Jeff Buckley.

I may just have to take a punt on this and buy the CD unheard. Has anyone here heard him sing?

As I was beginning to understand a couple of weeks ago, it's an absolutely superb record. The man's a wonder, if not quite at the Jeff Buckley level of attainment.

The music deserves to be so much better known, so (like "Grace") it will disappear without trace while people listen to the shite that gets pumped out of the radio.

But we know better.

Is anyone interested in going to see AATJ at the Queen Ezlizabeth hall on the Southbank (London!) on Friday 24 June? It's part of Patti Smith's Meltdown series of concerts and is sold out. I have 2 spare tickets that I was going to return to the box office. Just thought they may be useful to someone who really wants to see the band, front central stalls. Private mail to :

Hope this hasn't broken the forum rules, I'm not trying to make any money out of this just to move the tix to someone who'd appreciate the gig.

Delighted to see that he's on the shortlist for the Mercury Prize. Might be worth a punt at 10-1.

If I knew what to do in a betting shop, I might even stick a fiver on!

So, who followed my tip and backed Antony for the Mercury prize, then?

Dev

Are you sure that you're not copying my comments re the late great JB (see above)?

Just got home this afternoon, and no voicemail message from you. I'm off to Germany tomorrow to see how they rebuild old Quad amps and speakers. Will be back home again late Saturday night.

Regards.
