Amoured mains cable Q.

Posted by: BigH47 on 13 November 2009

I hope this is an OK question.
Does anyone know if armoured mains cable fitted on an external wall has to be in a conduit or some other covering?
I am waiting for an electrician to visit re: a direct spur.

Does anyone know of a good electrician in the West Sussex preferably Gatwick area? He needs to be well versed in direct HiFi spur provision.

My understanding (and I'm not an electrician) is that external cabling must be armored OR in a metal conduit, you don't need both.

Call the guys at Infidelity, they recommended an electrician to do my brother's house for his 552/500 system ... he lives in Walton-on-Thames so the electrician should go out to your neck of the woods ...

Armoured cable is normally used for under ground or across the sea.

or anywhere else it's inconvinient or impossible or just un cost effective to install conduit prior to drawing cables.

You're OK with a steel wired armoured cable for outside. Once at ground level you bury it in a trench. It's worth running the cable in a way that minimises the risk of damage in coming years even if that results in a longer (and more expensive) run, which it usually does.....
