Quad 22L for Naim???
Posted by: cyu on 19 August 2003
I am thinking of buying Quad 22L floorstander for my CD5/112/150. I have been hearing alot of mix reviews of these speakers.
Has anyone hear these with NAIM system?
If so, I would appreciate any thoughts.
If not, any alternatives would be much appreciated. I noticed many suggested Dynaudio Audience 50.
Lastly, I am searching for a good DIN 5-RCA for a tape player. What would be an ideal length? Is 1m ideal ?
Thanks much in advance.

A friend of mine just picked up his 22Ls yesterday and is running them in, he may be looking at Naim amplification later as well.
But I have heard them with quad 909 and pre combo and I have to admit for the money they are good sounding speakers. The bottom end seems wooly though but this could be because they are quite new.

I did a head to head of Naim Intro's, Ruark Prelude 2's and Quad 22L's with the CD5,112,150 combo.
I thought the 22L's were better than the Intro's but the presentation was a bit clinical for mine and my girlfriend's ears. We both preferred the Ruark's which now grace my system.
Thoroughly happy I am too

Is Naim the only way forward?

I own the 21L (albeit without any naim gear). They do have a 'clean' treble, but are rarely harsh. I did audition CD5/202/200 through the popular 11L and found the combination to be excellent. I was slighlty trepiditious given what i had heard about the naim sound. In fact, it was wonderfully musical and 'organic'. Both myself and the SO have decided that we need to save up for this gear as a result....
Oh, and as for the speakers, they are wonderfully finished, but do avoid the bird's eye maple: too psychedelic.
