One of the finest musicians ever,i am suprised that he is not mentined more here, saw him live at Crewe Railwaymans club in the early seventies,he was supported by Ted Chastie one of the best gigs i have ever been to.

Bert is an extraordinary musician and a very fine fellow - what would you recommend?

I would recomend his album "Pickin my way" as a good intro, some of his appearences with Eric Sykes are also the business.

RE Bert and his play in a day. He didn't say how well you would be able to play in that day.
I could even teach you the third man theme in a day (or less).

Older than that.

iirc, Bert had the 1st ever pop guitar solo hit, with "Guitar Boogie Shuffle" in the late 50's

What really frightens me is that I can clearly
remember the 5 O'Clock Club to which I referred in an earlier post but have trouble remembering what I did on Sunday last!
"Remember Four Feather Falls or Fireball XL5?"
Easy! What about 'Sparky' or 'Muffin The Mule' when it was a TV prog and not an offence.

I liked the idea that you could get around space on a Lambretta.
Zoonie the monkey and Robert the Robot spring to mind (the see-through one). Way ahead of its time.

...I wish I was a spaceman the fastest guy alive I'd fly around the universe in Fireball XL5

They were good as a double act, but when Ollie left Fred to go solo, it didn't really work out. Every funny man needs his straight man. Rumour has it Ollie turned to drink, but that was later disputed. However, Ollie and Fred were stalwarts of the Bert Weedon show and surely we should always remember them for that.
