Cable direction
Posted by: Jrook on 27 May 2003
I'm sure this question has been asked before but I just can't seem to find it in the forum.
Here goes. Does it make any sonic difference as to which way the 5pin din is connected between my stage line and Hi-cap? There is a small plastic band with NA-22 printed underneath. I presently have this band connected closer to the stageline than the Hi-cap.
Does it make a difference as to which way the cable is running.
Thanks mates,
Jrook

Yes it does and you've got it right. The 'banded' end of the Snaic goes to the source. This also applies to all Naim interconnects.

There's a document (connections.pdf) on Naim's website. Should be in there. Just checked and according to the doc there's no indication so probably not (my FC2 manual details which way round things should go). I thought the band normally went towards the signal end?

But the PDF doc on the website doesn't explicitly state this as it does for other things.

Woody,
I think we're saying the same thing here. The 'banded' end of the cable 'points' to the signal.

Hi Woody,
Jim is correct. The banded end of Naim interconnect cables *always* goes to the source component (or "upstream" component). It should sound best connected this way 'round.

dave

A question for Naim (or others).
What does the 'NA-xx' on the cable represent?

Howdy Jim,
Funny...I was about to email you about it. Damn fine now that you mention it!!! I've finally found the time to sort thru the rig and find a final resting spot for the 101/snaps on a otherwise, "catch-all" wooden shelving assembly now cleared of spray cans, aquarium parts, and tubes of caulk in order to serve a greater good;-) The new shelf ain't a Fraim, but it's better than my previous location on the basement floor. With my outside antenna (ST-1?..same antenna regardless) still inside, the 101's reception improved further by placing it on this shelf 4 feet above the floor. I wonder if Naim/NANA has found a sonic substitute for Mr. Smiths' aerials at this point?
What can I say but thanks again for the AF/BASE/101 swap. Trust the AF is doing it's bit for you as well!
regards,
dave
P.S. NA-xx indicates the employee that made the cable.
P.P.S. Check out Mark Kopfler's "Ragpicker's Dream"..nice one!!!
