HDX causing heavy PS hum

Posted by: yeti.fro on 13 July 2010

Hi,

since yesterday I have a HDX at home demo connected to my 252/300.

When I switch on the HDX, the 300PS starts immediately to hum. The hum is alternating periodically, purely mechanical and sometimes so loud that the 300PS rattles. SC remains silent. No hum from the speakers either.

When I switch off the 300, the SC starts to hum in the same way, but not quite as heavy.

When the HDX is switched off, both SC and 300 are silent.

Tried chassis/floating ground and some mains filters, but no change.

Anybody had similar probs with a HDX?

I´m using a QNAP NAS with almost 1000 CDs ripped to FLAC. The HDX is now scanning the share for about 10h. Is it always that slow? Sonos and Twonky both need about 5min to scan the share.

Sounds like time to get your dealer involved. Something's wrong but it would be almost impossible to diagnose remotely.

and it sounds like the HDX is not scanning your files. It's searching for an ethernet connection. Your dealer probably had it setup for static or out of it's normal range. As above, get the dealer to visit.

Thx guys for the answers. My dealer is unfortunately away on summer vacation for the next two weeks...

Network config is ok, the HDX was really that slow. It took only ca. 12h to scan the share.

Humming is better after separating the 300PS and the HDX with two mains filters. I knew why I didnt want a PC in my music room...

Two more questions:

When I switch on the HDX it´s always set to use the harddisk only, although a network share is active. So I have to change the storage location from internal to network manually everytime. Not a big deal, but nevertheless annoying. How can I set this up permanent?

Display is much to bright when listening to music in the evening. Is there a way to switch it off or at least dim it?
