Exporting from HDX

Posted by: andrew jameson on 17 April 2009

Couple of quick questions ...

1. Can you export from an HDX, say to a USB stick? I've had a brief scan of the manual and it's not obvious that you can

2. Are there any significant changes between SP8 and SP9 or is it just minor bug tweaks

Thanks

Andrew

While we have your attention Phil, I've got a few issues/suggestions for the DTC and HDX in general. Is it best to clutter up this forum or is there a preferred email address at HQ?

Cheers
John

You can drop any suggestions / comments / feedback over to support@naimnet.com - that'll come to me!

Really strange this product is. Luckily it sounds absolutely amazing, allegedly.

As has already been stated elsewhere - once we've finished testing the next release of software and have issued that out then you'll be able to copy music between the HDX and an external NAS device ...

When you fill your iPod with music and want to add more the you *DELETE* some music and you can add more, similarly when you fill the hard disc on your PC you can *DELETE* some information to free up some space and then add more.

The ATV does not support ripping to an external device as it has no ripping hardware (optical drive) - it is simply a playback device that has local storage and can access media that is on a remote store as well (the HDX can do this). If you fill up your ATV with downloaded content then - once again - you would have to delete some content before you could download more to it.

All of those devices you have listed work in the same way - once you have filled them then - to add more data to them you have to delete some information before you can get some free space to add more data.

The upcoming HDX software release simply adds additional functionality (which the devices you have listed above at this time do not have) which allows the user to copy data off to an external NAS (once it is there then it is no longer our responsibility what the user does with it) and also allows the transparent ripping of data to NAS devices.

Yes it was due to be out by now - and it will be out as soon as we are happy that it is ready for release.

The next update is a very major one which changes a lot of the internal databasing and the way that music on external storage is handled.

Cheers Phil. Smile

You say above .. "The next update is a very major one...".
That being the case, I assume the software version will have to change accordingly to reflect this e.g to V1.5, or even V2.0, as an increment to the last character (like 1.4c to 1.4d for example) is usually associated with "minor" changes...? Winker
