We haven't seen this for a while ....
What's your top five favourite guitar solo or riff
Rock, Blues, Folk, Classical, - but not the 10 minute long ear splitting HM jangly stuff (please)

Jimi Hendrix - Star Spangled Banner @ Woodstock - not because its well played (it isn't), but because it ooooozes emotion
Eagles - the Don Felder/Joe Walsh duet - Hotel California
Pink Floyd - David Gilmour - Comfortably Numb
Led Zeppelin - Jimmy Page - Stairway to Heaven
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower

That's my list taken from a shake out of 50 or more

Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist from the early eighties, contemporaneous with EVH and considered a serious rival at the time in the guitar hero stakes. Sadly died too young.

When are you moving to Malaysia? There a couple of really good musicians who frequent KL's jazz clubs / restaurants such as 'No Black Tie' and 'Alexis Bistro'.

Some of John Parricelli's guitar riffs in 'Smoke Signals' are just smoking hot!

Irwan,

Be there there in a couple of weeks. Just packed up my house in jakarta. Last time I lived in KL No Black Tie was closed. I saw Jeremy Monteiro in bangkok once. Very nice.

Oh, Ozzy's guitarist... Now I have to backtrack all that stuff so I can talk about it to my brother-in-law who is an Ozzy-fan Razz

Welcome to Malaysia! Hope you enjoy your stay here. To feed your Naim addiction, drop by at any CMY Audio dealerships (they have a few branches at various shopping malls). They are Naim's dealers for Malaysia. I highly recommend Steve at CMY One Utama. A very friendly chap who will see to all your Naim needs. If you are a fan of Nils Lofgren, he has a CD of a live performance for testing on various Naim products. Very nice guitar riffs on that CD!

Randy Rhodes

Saw him live with Ozzy in 1980, had tickets for the next tour which was cancelled after his untimely death.

Anything from the first two Ozzy albums was excellent.
The best for me is the version of Suicide Solution on the live "Tribute" album

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Another guitarist who died before his time. He made a profound impression on me at the Reading Festival 1983 as a late replacement for Survivor.
The first 3 albums are the best, Texas Flood, Couldn't stand the Weather and Soul to Soul.

Favourite tracks, Dirty Pool,Tin Pan Alley and Life without you

Here's some great guitar work from this century.

Peter Buck - The opening of Living Well Is The Best Revenge, a real statement of intent that clatters through the rest of the track and sets the tone for a great return to form by REM.

Vini Reilly - I can't really pick out one aspect of his playing on Keep Breathing which is fantastic throughout this album.

Joanne Shaw Taylor - Going Home. She's 23, from Birmingham (England) and as well as playing brilliantly, wrote all the songs on White Sugar, which is one of my albums of 2009.

Dan Auerbach - any of the first 4 tracks on Thickfreakness. Knocks the White Stripes into a cocked hat.

Turin Brakes - Underdog (Save Me), not sure if it's Ollie or Gale that takes the brief solo. A strong song in the excellent The Optimist LP.

Maria McKee - lots of good guitar work most of her albums, and In Your Constellation is a high point of the 2003 High Dive.

A couple of my favourites from the 70's are Billy Gibbons on Ten Dollar Man from the album Tejas and a very distinctive talent, Lowell George on the live version of Mercenary Territory on Waiting for Columbus.

Gary Moore - As the years go passing by.

Mick Box (uriah Heep)- Tears in my eyes.

Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile
