VTA & 180 pressings

Is teh difference between a 120 gram and 180 gram pressing critical to VTA... if so how do you get around this, set it in the middle?

Are there cartridges that are less susceptible to VTA than others?

Hi,

I found the Linn K18II to be very susceptible to VTA changes; having adjusted the arm for 180g pressings thinner records sounded too bright sometimes.

Now I use a Denon DL103 which seems to be much more forgiving. So I adjusted for 180g and decided to be happy with it :-)

Christopher,

Since we're on the subject of VTA - I have used the well known technique of using female vocal mono recording, focussing the vocal centrally. What I found was that this method, though very accurate, doesn't actually give you the best PRaT - to do that a setting with a "wider" vocal image is optimum (IIRC the optimium for timing corresponds to a slightly more negative VTA). So I don't find the 180g vinyl is a problem.

Has anyone else observed this?
