Naim and AV Amps/Processors

Posted by: peteS on 14 March 2001

I wondered if anyone from Naim wanted to comment on what plans you have for AV processors/amps. I heard tell at Bristol that you soon to be launching an 5.1 amp (or was it a 3.1 processor - 2 different answers from different people). Is this correct, and if so which one?

Also, the message I heard was that this will be based on the new 5 series design. To those of us with large piles of dark brown boxes (82, 250, 2*HiCap) this is a real shame. In particular, if Naim is going to produce a processor, surely the target audience will be people that want to add AV function to existing Naim 2 channel setups. Any plans to produce a 3.1 processor in 82 style?

One final question/moan. It's a pain that the 82 VCR input, which I feed from the L/R pre-outs of my current (sony) AV 5.1 amp, is volume controlled. This means that there are 2 volume controls in play when using an AV processor. Don't suppose there's any chance of a way round this?

We will produce a 5.1 processor and a 3 channel amp.

Yes these products, av2 and napv 175 will be in the SERIES5 style.
I think you will find that once postioned the styles merge and it does work, however if that is not to your taste then I am sure along the way though not in 2001 there MAYBE other more expensive models.

Sorry I do not know a way round this apart from always setting the 82 position in the same place for av and then adjust your sony control.
