Matching Naim equipment to B&W P5 speakers.

Posted by: Bernard Duncan on 04 July 2001

I am looking at upgrading my system. I presently have Denon equipment (low end) and having listened to a range of different brands, consider Naim would be a good step up for me. I have not had the opportunity to trial Naim equipment with my B&W P5 speakers, but would appreciate hearing the experiences of anyone else who runs this combination or who has trialed it.

Regards from down under!

Hi Bernard,

I used to have the smaller P4s and when auditioning naim gear I ended up having to get a NAP180 to drive them as I felt that the lower power amps struggled a little at the extremes (especially the Portishead Dummy album).

My P4s just loved power and never really opened up without. In the end I replaced them with SBLs.

Hi Bernard,

I used to have the B&W P6 speakers. Initially I drove them using a single NAP140 (front-end CD 3.5/flatcap/nac102/flatcap/psc). It was quite ok, but lacked some dynamic slam. Adding a 2nd NAP140 in passive bi-amp mode improved everything quite dramatically. B&Ws need some 'juice' in order to play real music.

However I guess you´ll find it hard to get any response from this forum since you are not using shoebox sized speakers (do the Kan Kan).

DBL's contain Goliath's shoes then ? wink
