I've always stuck with the concept of having a low return, but almost totally safe investment in say Government/Euro Bonds, rather than letting some unqualified spiv of a dodgey geezer pretend to have my interests at heart, and sign away my savings etc, to big risky & associates; feign ignorance later, and expect the State (in costrast to Society) to foot the bill for my stupidity, even though the Chap/ess who ripped me off, did so quite legally:
