Stands vs rack mounting

All professional sound gear has rack mounting ears, studio equipment is rack mounted.
The devices that issue, process, mangle and mix the sound are rack mounted.
The CD writers and DAT machines are rack mounted
So...
Why is no UK Hi-FI rack mounted ?
UK amps get put on stands, US amp have rack ears to be racked up.
Is a good rigid stand with the gear bolted on not a good sonic environment?
Whats the story then?
