Upgrade advice Nait2 -> ?

Posted by: Lars on 12 July 2002

Hi,

I currently have a Nait2 which I really think is almost everything I could ask for, but...

1. I would like to be able to run a MC phono stage.

2. I would like to be able to play a little louder on my Kan II:s (no problem with CD)

3. A remote control would be nice to have.

I'm currently thinking of getting a 102/140 to start with and then save money for a HiCap.

Anyone who have made this move or have another solution to my "problems" or alternate upgrade paths? How much is a used 102?

Lars

It Kan be done!

So you need a MC input, a decent ammount of power and a remote...
The Nait2 isn't really capable of driving Kans so try to aim for a NAP160(the thinking Naim users 140) or a Linn LK280(the listening mans 250).
Try a Linn LK1(£150?) as it has both a (superb) MC stage and an (old fashioned and bulky) remote. The LK1 isn't perfect, A Kairn or Naim equivalent would be better (or a Dirak PSU) but you can't argue with the value!
PS If you want an integrated, Try a Nait 3(almost double the power at 30 w/ch) or a Linn Intek at 50w/ch.

I dispute this! I have run Kans with a good variety of Naim amps (140, 250, 135) and I currently run my Kan 2s with just a Nait 2. The Nait 2 is fine, just needs a really good source upstream.

As to the original posters question - if vinyl is the main source I would consider a Tom Evans phono stage or a Prefix / *cap before sinking over 2K on upgrading the amp. I'm running a LP12 through a Tom Evans Microgroove and it works a treat believe me. I plan to upgrade my Ittok to an Aro or equivalent way before changing the amp!
