Scam!

Posted by: dave marshall on 11 March 2008

Hi folks,

Just spotted yet another scam from an alleged seller of Naim kit.

I contacted the guy, to arrange to go see the amp, but he was very keen that I should send the funds as "it would be easier and quicker"

An invoice purporting to be from Gumtree duly arrived, telling me that the transaction would be guaranteed by their "Squaretrade" policy, and that the seller had a locked deposit of £2000.00 with them, to cover any mishaps. There is no such cover offered on the Gumtree site, which is, after all simply a classified ads. site.

It's the old story, if it seems too good to be true, then it probably isn't.

Be careful out there!

Cheers,

Dave.

Avoid gumtree ads such as this like the plague. I reported a couple of dubious ads for Supercap and NAC52 on there about a month ago and they were removed pretty quickly. Lots of consters operating out there on gumtree.

Hi again,

Gumtree have just pulled the offending ad.

It pays to report suspicious adverts on whatever website, that way we are all looking after each other's interests on this forum.

Cheers,

Dave.

McAfee site advisor rates this site as 'amber' - prone to spam emails etc - so I wouldn't recommend going there at all. Perhaps this link should be removed.
