Roy Hargrove - go on treat yourself

Not too often do I go to a gig knowing nothing of a jazz outfit and come out blown away. Well that happened to me last night at the opening night of the 31st Edinburgh Jazz&Blues festival.

Roy Hargrove and his quintet were simply fantastic, New Orleans style jazz, Miles-alike control, Funky numbers, lovely guest vocalist. Just an great show from a great talent.

If he's doing any shows in your area I'd strongly recommend availing yourself of a good time.

Check him out on youtube for a free sample.

Ian - I have seen Roy Hargrove live a couple of times and he is fantastic - far better than on CD.

The gig I remember most was in the mid 90's when I sat in the front row of the Village Vanguard in New York and underwent a two and a half hour assault on the senses from him and his big band. Just phenomenal stuff, in that tiny jazz club. That you can get so close to talent like that is one of the great pleasures of liking jazz music.

He is a very talented musician who in my mind has not got the full recognition his talent deserves.

You will not be disappointed. Just live is definitely better. Excessive use of the word "Far" Winker
