Larmer Tree - Nick Harper

Posted by: Anna Tooth on 09 July 2001

I was at the Larmer Tree Music Festival over the weekend; a really friendly, chilled-out festival near Salisbury. Saw some excellent musicians including Eric Bibb and Thea Gilmore, but the stand-out act of the weekend was a guy called Nick Harper. I didn't know anything about him and he is really talented. He's a phenomenal guitarist with a great voice and his songs are good too. Also really entertaining to watch. I'll be getting an album ASAP, apparently "Seed" is a good place to start.

Anyone know anything about him?

The "Come in here dear boy, have a cigar" Roy Harper. (Pink Floyd - Riding The Gravy Train)

I didn't know anything about him until I read a a review of a Roy Harper concert in this months Uncut magazine. Apparently Nick got up on stage with his dad - sounds like it was a good concert.

Check out this track on his recent album. I think it's tops.
Also if you like Nick try some of Roy's stuff, he has the ability to fill a whole side with a poem, whacked out 70's hippy style, and create some of the most beautifull songs I know.
Check out his web site for a more reasoned critique.
Check out 'Flat Baroque and Berserk', 'Stormcock'

Enjoy, Marc
