AV System ***
Posted by: Yetizone on 21 October 2009
Hi all.
I'm looking for inspiration on how to set up an AV system and was wondering how you have integrated all of the necessary kit into your living space. I'm trying to avoid too many boxes on show so that its as family friendly / safe as possible. Probably revolving around a 42" plasma / LCD screen (may be bigger - yet to be confirmed).
Is there any chance of you sharing pictures and experiences

I'll give it a go Stu! Just needs lots of scatter cushions to soak up any excess bass as PB says in his thread

Dave - You'll be mad trying it, Shirley...!? That room looks around the size of mine and I would never had considered the Ovaries (not withstanding the issues of their looks and mere 'ok' sound, imo)...
Why not wait for the rumoured 400s - although admittedly you may be a old man by then at the going roll-out rate...!
SL2 ?

I tried the SL2's and found them too lean and a bit bass shy, which is why I ended up with the Guru's. The mid and treble from the Ovator's is to die for, but I admit that their bass can be a bit overpowering. Each time I have heard them - Cymbiosis, Tom Tom, Naim's own room, then the recent Northants show, the bass has become more controlled. The Cymbiosis and Show rooms were smaller than my own with much less soft furnishing to absorb some of the bass bloom so I still think it's worth a try. If they don't work, I'm considering the Guru QM60's or anything else James at Tom Tom can pass my way in this price range.

Where's the electric blinds - external ?
Hi Steve, the blinds are internal & sit just behind the curtains- you can just make out the one running along the top of the window to the left.
They're programmed into the remote control so they automatically go up & down.
Garyi - spot on with the importance of the centre speaker. Probably the most important one in a home cinema setup.

Mmmmm - might have to get myself one of those, just for the fun! - I will only need a small one.

Try something from the Shahinian range, damn good speakers even they look wrong, and James is doing them.

Hey Gary,
What is that blue kettle-looking thing in the corner of the photo?
I like the use of the CD's as a graphic element.
Personally, I'd be tempted to chop a hole and push the centre speaker back to be a flush mount. Nice set-up overall, though.

The way the naim speaker mounts onto its thing won't allow a punch out without leaving unsightly holes.
The blue thing is a sub speaker.

Also aligning the fronts of all the speakers probably helps improve the sound.

Tony,
how do you like the n-sats as Rears? I am considering n-sats or Allaes as Rears. Are yo completely happy with the n-sats or is there room for improvement (though unlikely looking at the quality of you Naim components)?

Also very good as sides in a 7.1 system
Quite. This is probably what I will do down the road - once I have finally found the floorstanders I want for the front ( ) , the 4 n-SATS I have can go into full surround & rear use...
The only issue I have with the n-SATS as surrounds is their size, bit big off the wall really...

lawoftrust - you will need to upload your images to a website, either your own domain or a free to use image server like photobucket, flickr etc - then link the image as part of your post here, where they will display (there are plenty of threads/posts with more detailed instructions on here if you search).
