Advise needed

How do I go about having one system that combines two channel audio listening and AV Home Theatre? I do not like to listen to 5 channel audio, only two channel. The family is wanting the Home Theatre. I currently have way too much two channel audio gear. Naim Nait 2, CD 3.5, CD5x, Audiomat Prelude and Arpege Amps, Vecteur CD Player, Spendor 1/2, Neat Petite, and Living Voice Auditorium speakers, and a few others. I am wanting a simple but great two channel system and a good theatre system. I do have a Pioneer DVD player. Any suggestions?

Depends on your budget...

If budget permits, get a NAP175 (3 channel amps to drive your surround and centre speakers) and an AV2.

chazm,

In your position I would advise buying a second hand cheap Yamaha type solution that can provide amplification to the centre and the rears. In the UK that would be something like an E-492.

Fill in the 'bits' using your current hardware and then live with that for at least six months.

Following that you can decide whether this is a solution you can live with, or if you need to start auditioning!

Will I be able to go from two channel audio listening to Five Channel movies with a flip of switch? Or will I need to keep things seperate. I guess my main point is that first and foremost I want to have a great two channel Naim audio system. In the same room I will also have a TV to be used for movies and sports. Is there the abilty for one system to do it all? If not I want the movies and TV to suffer, not audio.

Chazm,

Different people will give you different answers.

One school firmly believe that to introduce a phone into the same room as your hi-fi will degrade the sound.

My suggestion will enable you to have a play at a v.cheap price, and see what you think.

In may case I introduced an E-492 into my Linn/Naim setup.

I eventually ended up with the AV2/DVD5 and two more Naim power amps.......but you might go another way.

I don't think my 'proper' system, or listening, has been degraded.
