Very dodgy picture of Arcs

Any ideas Noel - they look very close to the rear walls, but are actually about 18 inches from it...

Fisbey,

Our rooms are very different!! Looking at the right hand speaker, in my set up the righthand rear corner of my speaker would be about where the left hand front corner of your speaker is. I have a lot less fruniture. Three open frame chairs and a footstool. Where you have soft furnishings I have large amounts of Brio, Lego and plastic animals. Accoustically I would describe my room as lively yours looks subdued.
I dont have any rugs on the floor. I often have an Early Learning Centre playkitchen sitting between the speakers. I think there may not be enough space in your room for the Arcs and all the other furnishings, assuming you want to keep them away from the electronics and with the TV in between them. I'll have a think, but I can see its difficult.
One other point, do the Arcs interfere with the TV at that distance?

Due to rampaging toddlers my Arcs are even closer the the TV than that!!! If I place them to the side they definitely interfere with the picture, so I have the TV on a large long coffee table with the Arcs just behind to the left and right. The magnetic field then does not interfere with the picture, must be the angle of the drivers.

FYI mine are about 4-5ft apart set back in an alcove, about 8ins from rear wall and 6ins from side walls. Not ideal but still sound pretty good and safe from toddlers.

The great bonus is that I can make the TV/DVD sound great without resorting to a surround sound setup

Yes there's a lot crammed in there I know, but I've made a bold move (and quite a sad one I know) - I have borrowed some old Rega Elas and will probably keep them - there is still some resonance, but the sound is perfectly acceptable (not quite in the Arcs league I know), at least until my financial situation improves - yes I will be selling the Arcs very soon....

Fisbey,

Sad to hear you're having to sell the Arcs, but it's the right thing to do. It doesn't matter how they sound in my or other peoples homes, if they don't work for you find something that does. Frown

Mr Perceptive, can you not keep the speakers against the wall and slide them out when neccessary? Due to my two year olds interest in the ABR I always have my Arcs right up against the wall when I'm not listening to them.

Fisbey,

I know exactly where you are coming from. I've been using some small speakers (B&W 601 S3) instead of the Arcs for 3 days now and whilst they don't do many things that the Arcs can I find that they are more suitable for my room. I will stick with the 601's for the time being and possibly try some better speakers with a similar amount of bass output perhaps WB Arcs.

Have you considered trying a sub with the Elas? you may be able to position and tune appropriatley for your rooom. I'm considering that approach as I miss the bass both on music and especially for AV.

I've owned Elas before, so I know them well - not too bad at all.

The bottom line (no pun intended) is that I need to conserve money right now, so a sub is right out...

I did listen to some B & W 805 signatures on saturday - not particularly impressed personally...

So it will be goodbye to the Arcs soon (sob)...

BTW What are WB arcs?

WB Arcs are Wilson Benesch Arcs, they are standmounts and have a reasonable reputation but have from what I've read (not heard) can be bit sterile without suitable electronics.
