Control of SN via RS232 or RC5
Posted by: davea on 01 January 2009
Hi there,
I would like to be able to remotely control my Supernait from a PC interface.
I can see it is fitted with RC5 remote in/out connectors, which can presumably be used to interface via a suitable device. Does anyone know if the relevant technical info is available to show how to do this?
(I know there is a RS232 option but this is extra cost.)
Couldn't find any info anywhere on either remote control option.
cheers,
Dave

RC5 control of the SUPERNAIT is unidirectional; RS-232 is by far the most appropriate option.

Not sure that is really a problem, assuming unidirectional means I tell it what to do; volume up/down, input select etc. What would I need in the other direction?
Having said that, I can see RS-232 add on is £90 so not entirely out of the question. Presumably I can get that via dealer and it should come with appropriate documentation?
cheers,
Dave

Global Cache GC100 is another option.

That does look interesting. Many thanks!!

... The GC100 seems ideal for the job, but ...
Can the IR output be fed into the RC5 input on the back of the SN?
or would I have to use an led emitter attached to the front of the SN (yuk!)

Yes, it can be fed into the 3.5mm jack on the rear.
