Ah, a whole issue dedicated to cartridge reviews!
Posted on: 10 February 2003 by John Channing
pm,
I certainly had that issue, the Aro is a preproduction item in all black. IIRC Malcom Steward prefered the Aro, Chris Frankland the Ekos.

Eat your hearts out. I've still got all of the copies, and all of The Flat Response, and the last few years worth of Popular HI FI. I wonder what Chris Frankland listens to now?

It would be fantastic if we could get some authorisation and publish these old articles on the net.

a couple of e-mails,the mags and a scanner is all we need.

that would make another classic naim web link.

I'm sure it is possible. It all depends on us! Wink

(I am also certain that these readings would spark some new subjects and debates on the forum). That would provide some fresh air (with old stuffWink)

Anyone got any idea how we would go about this, given that the magazine is long since extinct?

>>that would make another classic naim web link <<

Yeah, I think so too. Especially as pm has a load of HiFi Reviews I have never seen (and would love too).

Well that's because owning Naim in the past provided a clear visual statement that you were into something special and quirky, which had been chosen carefully.
It is unlikely that anyone would give the new anonymous stuff a second glance.

Creating a webring will be a fantastic idea, sombody should kick start it though.

pm! Thanks for the nostalgic trip. Hifi Rewiew was my referrance in those days and helped me convert from a Sansui reciever to a Nait.....

And the rest as they say........ Roll Eyes

Almost all of TFR is at Rob Holt's web site. The two missing issues could be available too.

I scanned them at a substantial size, and every page, so the result is somewhat unwieldy without more processing.

Anyway here's a scan I did ages ago of a crusty magazine cover that contained the first colour picture I ever saw of Naim amps.

What a fantastic thread I loved Hi-Fi Review too and came to Naim through it. I have some articles too from those days but would love to read the SBL review!

Scanning them in sounds a good idea. I/You can contact Malcolm Steward at http://www.britishaudiojournal.com/ which he now runs to seek permission.

If we can get this going it would be fantastic.

If anybody wants articles or reviews from any copies of the FTR or HI FI Review I can scan them. Just email me.

Hi Syd,

I am sure that if you started scanning articles from these publications we could get a headstart when we get the authorisation from their authors.

You could maybe start identifying the articles and make a liste of them?

I for one would be interested to get some. I would however be even more interested in participating in the creation of a web site that would help preserve these treasures and give them a second life! All for posterity! Smile

Anyway. Just some ideas.

RichardN

The box under the aerial looks like a Motion Electronic TV Tuner - I had two of their products but they never got the Nicam capability installed. The picture shows the early model

I remember when I first fitted it into the system - the dramatic ambience was superb.

I think the products were made at Wateringbury near Maidstone in Kent
The business was run by a Mr R S Bourhill, a Scotish chap.

So now you will tell me that I am wrong

Richard - did you have a Motion Electronic tuner?
