This Sunday has been chosen to be the official British day of jointly celebrating Victory in Europe and The end of WWII with the defeat of Japan, after the dropping of the bombs on Hiroshima & Nagasaki (some still thinking that the first one would have sufficed, but that's another matter, innit ?). There will be street party's in the UK, and no doubt H.M. Gutter Press will have a field day, especially in Germany's direction, what with the world cup next year and all that stuff.

Fritz Von But you invaded Poland Cool

You cannie beat a good street party to bring the neighbours together, and while they're all having fun, some other chavs from Swindon are robbing their houses, innit.

Fritz Von God Save The Queen Smile

Mind you there's also plenty of 'pendants' as well as bunting Razz and pork pies with English mustard: Aaaagh.

Thats a great line especially when you sing it out loud.

Nime. You are right in respect of your Party & Dancin in the Street comment old bean. I think this date should always be 'Commemorated', rather than Celebrated (once the last survivors have past on)(though I'd like to know their opinions too). I was suprised that even though this 'Forum' quite rightly recently mentioned the Anzac commitments some 90 years back, the loss of 58,000 US lives just 30 years back, not to mention the 3 MILLION + Vietnamese one's wasn't even mentioned once ?

Fritz Von If you ask a British kid today who's on top of the column in Trafalgar Square they're very likely to answer Nelson Mandela in a funny hat, and I jest not unfortunately).

Well done West Ham United you have really made my day today, and that's a fact Big Grin though it's still early to say too much at this stage Eek

Chaps

I think the Germans can tolerate us having street parties and the like and will even forgive a bit of jingoism.

I dare say the great puzzle for them is....how did a nation of layabouts like Fritz, ever win the war.

Regards

Mick von (British layabouts abroad should be brought back and put in the Army to clean the barrack floors with a tooth brush blah blah blah as that will do the lazy sods the world of good blah blah blah)

These days the glass does often seem to be rather more important than the contents.
Since taking up an octagonal glass with ice encrustation I have been enjoying my odd drop of warm British beer rather more than previously. Innit? Smile

Mick

If you knew anything about your subject matter you would know that the worst experience the army ever enjoyed was when recruiiting (National Service) was compulsory.

I also heard that such "bulling" is now reserved for "terrorist" prisoners.

Since they can't seem to pin a prosecution on anybody above the rank of chief cook and bottle washer for the recent mistreatment of prisoners why can't they prosecute the officer's lounge lizards for failing to maintain discipline and gross dereliction of duty? By their failure to stop such mistreatment they are as guilty as those who "were only following orders".

It always brings a wry smile to my face when the hun complains that we celebrate kicking his ass at his little war games. I was reading in the paper the other day that, apparently, the hun's ambassador to Britain thinks we're awfully ignorant of post-war hunnish history!!!

Cheeky twat.

Those who fought in the war are getting a bit long in the tooth for an ear-bashing. Though you could always try the German old people's homes or sheltered accomodation if you are hell-bent on making your opinions known more widely.

Few countries are innocent if you go back far enough. The hideous way the British treated the natives of their colonies over a considerable period of time is simply beyond belief.

I wonder what derogatory terms they can come up with for their former slave-masters, torturers, rapists, mass-murderers and all-round completely evil bastards? All done in the name of profit, wealth, greed, class, status and bloody Empire.

True, but even so...!!!!!!

And in the greater, more relevant scheme of European history, the hun is the worst of the lot. And he is STILL trying to tell everyone else in "Europe" - wherever the hell that is - what to do. And certain grinning tossers think it's a good idea if Hans and old Johnny French have jurisdiction over our courts!!!
