Hi-Cap for Prefix or Pre Amp

Posted by: Richard Sedgemore on 04 February 2001

I have just ordered a Dynavector 20XL for my LP12/OL RB250/K9/72/HI/180/SBL's and don't know whether to order internal MC boards for the 72 or consider a Prefix or Stageline. If I went for an external phono stage I would have to use the HI-CAP to power it rather than powering the 72.

Would the gains of a Prefix outway loosing the power suppy for the 72?

I suspect I should go for the internal boards and wait until I can afford the a Prefix+HI-CAP

i think your suspicion is well placed. a power supply to the pre-amp will benefit all sources, including your record player. a power suppy to the prefix only will only benefit the record player.

ideally, do both. get 2 hicaps (there are good second hand ones about).

enjoy...

Hi Ken

Thanks for the comfirmation.

I have decided to go for just the boards at this stage, as over the weekend I decided to run the 72 of the 180. The sound just did now flow easily anymore with a total lack of openness and bass extension.

Will go for the Prefix along with Hi-Cap later.

Hi Jason

As I have just ordered a DV 20XL is it worth changing for DV 17D2. Presumably both will work well with an ARO in the future. What are the differences?

Cheers
