Oistrakh Tchaikovsky thoughts?

I have his 1948 version with Kondrashin on Melodiya which I like. I see he has a live one on BBC with Del Mar and another from '39 with Gauk on Dynamic IDIS Historical both of which got very good reviews.

Anyone have either of these? Recommendations for other?

Thanks.

I have this splendid DG set of two CDs with the three normal Bach Violin Concertos [the Double with his son], and the two Beethoven Violin Romances on the first disc, and, on the second, come East German recordings of the Brahms and Tchaikowski from the mid-fifties, which, especially the Tchaik, is a real favourite recording of mine. In the Brahms Concerto Oistrakh would be even finer in Paris with Klemperer for EMI a few years later, but the Tchaik is very special as are the Bach and Beethoven recordings. For me the Brahms is a little less inspired.

I very much recommend this set of diamond quality musical performances, which also happens to be none too expensive! An incredible little collection ...

Hey, George. As it turns out, I have that DG two-fer and didn't realize he does the Tchaik there. Someone else recommended that version. I'll have to give it a good listen. Thanks for pulling my coat to it.
