At last! The n-Stream app is finally available...

Been waiting for this since I bought my Uniti. Now I just need to take it into my dealer for the firmware upgrade.

Google support Flash in its Android right?
Then the browser version should work on (An)droid. If the Uniti supports the browser.

iPod touch has 320 x 480 px screen resolution (in its current incarnation, due to change imminently) and is pretty inexpensive–could you justify development of an Android-based app (especially when the OS and hardware compatibility is all over the map)?
- Not all Android devices support v2.2 software (yet).
- Flash performance is poor by all accounts on native v2.2 devices.
Based on my experiences with iPhone use over the last three-four years, I strongly suggest a dedicated device (e.g., iPod touch) for use as a remote (in fact, you may still be able to use your Android-based phone via USB for file playback).
It may be trendy and fashionable to loathe Apple, but they do provide a well-formed hardware ecosystem (as regards portable devices) that is difficult to beat.

Initial reports show issues with v2.2 Android-built Flash with the HDX / NS0x / UnitiServe interface, which accesses the built-in database of the servers to list albums / artists / etc.
Flash on the Android-based devices is not yet ready for general use (if it will be at all).
Uniti family of products does not feature a browser-based or desktop application interface for control.

Nothing slow about 2.2 flash i've encountered?.. I've got both so I'm not into bashing apple.
hopefully Naim will have a droid version though as Samsung are bring out a tablet that actually has some use to it..

On Ipod Touch app is OK but hugely unremarkable. The Uniti series deserves better than this - compare it to the Sonos app and it starts to get embarrassing - compare it to Chorus DS (development team - 1) where the guy has to deal with not just Cara 6 but the truly dready Kinsky and you start to wonder what Naim are thinking -
Naim if you are listening - the Uniti is great - the n-stream is .....er not
At £22 I think I may have been mugged...
Anyone else happy or is it me?

Lots of opinion, but you haven't itemized what's actually wrong with it.

Sorry David
1. Slow - rescans between choices endlessly
2. Small on an Ipad - no rotation on any iOS device.
3. Album artwork not working
4. The Incredible Hulk green on black theme is so 1990's (not serious Dave before you start)
It would have been fab 2 years ago ... as a free app but the world has has moved on and just producing a touchscreen version of the remote is not going to cut it.
5. See the competition Chorus HD, Sonos, Meridian Soolos etc. erm... B&O (no)
6. Queues or the lack there of.
7. £22 squid
If Naim have bespoke UPnP server software for sale I would buy it - but the control point needs to be far slicker....
8 Did I mention it costs £22 in Blighty

1 & 3 are definitely UPnP server dependent.
2 would be solved with a native iPad version (forthcoming), though I prefer portrait use myself anyway.
6 to be addressed with future update?
7 & 8 are a commercial issue, not a functional one.
5 is interesting inasmuch as the performance of many of these apps is all over the map.
Posts on other user forums are rather instructive as to the problems other manufacturers have within the same space, and it's a good thing that Naim actually supports its own app, rather than leaving control to chance.

Allen, he is probably referring to the fact that Linn did not design their app. It was designed by Sean Harding. I suppose if Sean keeled over, Linn would support an app. These apps are now standard functionality for these products.
For the Naim app, begs some questions...
Did Naim outsource it's app?
iPad Naim app? When?
UPNP dependent? Which software plays nice and which doesn't?
Queue? When?

Rational to the last David and I take your point about the flakiness of UPnP servers. However, I must admit that despite it's quirks Eyeconnect has been rock solid so far on my Macs.
True other apps can be flaky but so far I have found Apples's remote exceptionally solid and Sonos' new iPad app looks both polished and highly accomplished.
Glad to. Hear that you feel an iPad version of n-stream is forthcoming - do you have some inside info?
I do feel that those with earlier Unitis who are awaiting their firmware upgrades would be disappointed by the app in it's current form.

Pure speculation, especially as feedback from our retailers and end users of the newer 3.0 units suggests otherwise....

David - I notice you didn't offer to comment on your hint that "something ipad this ways comes.."
In addition how do you think n-stream stacks up against the Sonos app?

Hello, could someone post pictures of the n-stream application to give us an idea of how a user will navigate and use it?
Also this would allow everyone to make his own opinion on the design, the aesthetic of the UI.
I read above that there are no "queues": how does the user select multiple tracks to play in sequence? Can we clarify this point?
Thank you in advance.

A problem. N-Stream worked fine when I set up a wireless system with Qute/Router/HDX (but no PC) in our main building but now I have moved it to its permanent home in our small adjacent building it is wired to a router and in a PC network and I just cannot get the app to 'see' the device.
The streaming is working and the ipod/iPad both work fine in the building etc.
Any ideas?

Ok, assuming you have valid ip addresses on your wired connection, either static or via DHCP, you say you are connecting via a router and Not a switch. Routers connect different networkk ( sub nets) together. Upnp and most streaming protocols need to be in the same subnet unless a usually complicated setup of broadcast forwarders is programmed into the router) If you want to post the ip address and subnet mask given to the Qute when on wireless and when on wired, I can confirm whether this is happening. A valid address and subnet mask for any device on your wireless network with the same wireless network name ( ssid) will suffice.
If you are routing I will try and resolve for you with your LAN topology. I'm short we need to ensure your Qute is on the same subnet as thevstreamer.

Hi Bruce
Could I ask whether you have a wireless router or are you using a wireless bridge?
Sorry, could not quite decide which. Have you tried returning the Qute to wireless operation temporarily to recheck n-stream operation in it's new position?
Simon is likely on to the problem but more info on set-up could help.
Regards

Simon etc
The set up is a BT Home Hub. The PC and the Qute are connected to the router wired. The ipod connects wirelessly to the hub. The two do indeed appear to be on different subnets. When I unplugged the Qute and connected it wirelessly to the hub the N-stream app works fine. I could do this of course but I'd like the reliability of a wired connection.
The iPod appears on the HomeHub Manager as connected.
I'm a bit lost when it comes to subnet masks etc. Any more help would be appreciated.
