The 2001 Meltdown on the Southbank has a fantastic lineup this year.Im hugely excited by and going to see the following
John Surman/Jack DeJohnette
Andrew Cyrille/Oliver Lake/Reggie Workman/Keith Tippett
Max Roach!!! William Parker/Matthew Shipp!!!!! Nikki Yeoh

Also playing The Residents, The Raincoats, Gorky Zygotic etc, Terry Riley, Baaba Maal, Bill Laswell,Sparklehorse and Dave Gilmour (what does he do these days?)

If things keep going this way I'll have to start reading The Wire.

Apparently he has just had Russ Andrews Torlyte supports and Kimber cable installed in his studio.

I thought Pink Floyd were supposed to be big Mana fans?

Soft Machine were a classic late 60's psychedelic band and can still be fun to listen to. Of the few albums that I have, I have to recommend the first. They lose a little in the subsequent albums.

They survived for quite a while, but switching band members in the process, so the band's sound itself changed along with it. They were much closer to a type of jazz fusion sound by the last album that I heard.

I just managed to find a CD of the Soft Machine live at the BBC, I look forward to trying it out.

Cheers

Keith.
