NAXO : S-NAXO

Any opinions on the relative merits of NAXO vs SNAXO ?

I have a 2 way NAXO which I got as a job lot with a HiCap (Seller would not split) which has been sat on a shelf for a while. I am wondering if it has any value to me in a short/long term upgrade plan.

Current system:
LP12:Ittok:Clyde + Karik:Numerik => 82:HiCap => 250 => Kaber (Also have Kan1's + stands)

Upgrade to active using NAXO:
S'hand HiCap powering NAXO + 2nd hand 250
New S-CAP, existing HiCap powering NAXO + 2nd hand 250

Alternative upgrades not including NAXO:
Swap 250 for 2*135
HiCap powering new Prefix
New S-Cap

I guess it is an "active vs source first" kind of question. (Not the first one on the Forum), anyhow, any comments, opinions or personal experiences welcome.

Before you ask, I understand that the NAXO is setup for SARA's, but if I were to use it would get it serviced and set up for, probably, the Kabers. (3 way, I know, but ...)

David,

can't upgrade a 2-way to 3-way crossover.

Sorry, Martin

Don't mean to start another Kan-worshipping thread, but you could always actively bi-amp the Kans using the NAXO 2-4 Sara-Kan that you have already, + HICAP + 250.

You'll need to gut the Kans' internal passive crossover.

I got hold of a NAXO for £50, couldn't resist it!!

I've now managed to get two 250's and am using the NAXO actively on Credos and it is stunning far better sounding than a single passive 250.

By the way also have CDS2 and 52 so source is OK.

It changed my upgrade plans considerably I'm now going towards three 250's and NBLs.
