Board pulling. Quick and easy help required!!

Posted by: Tim Williams on 01 May 2003

Sorry to be dumb but I'm struggling here....

NAC102 - I want to plug a non-Naim phono stage into the 1A Din input.

I have S boards in place at the moment.

I spoke to Naim and was told that I could plug the phono stage directly into the 1A input and leave the boards in place (although they advised me to remove them for optimum performance)

I tried it and it doesn't work. No output at all. (It works through one of the other din inputs, but I don't have a spare one)

So...do I have to pull the S boards?

How do I do it? (Just lift them out?)

Do I have to replace them with through boards?

Do I have to do anything else?

That's it. Help here would be great!

I am not familiar with the 102, but with the 72, 82 & 52 "pulling the boards" does give improvements, though they must be replace by the "straight through" boards (I forget their code number) which simply contain tracks , but no components. They cost £30 and can be obtained from most Naim dealers.

Tim,

When you open up the NAC 102 to remove the phono boards, look just behind the DIN input (1a) on the PCB and you'll see a couple of links which need to be moved (it's marked either BNC or DIN) and soldered to the input you wish to use. If in any doubt it's best to ask your friendly Naim dealer to do this for you. It's a simple job which should take only a minute or two to perform.

Our apologies if that wasn't made entirely clear when you rang us.
