Is Kessler back then?
Posted by: Chillkram on 17 February 2007
In this month's Hi Fi News, Ken Kessler not only has his usual guest column that he has been writing since he 'left', but has also written a review on the Sonus Faber Guarneri Memento speakers.
he has awarded then 20/20 by the way.
Does this mean he is back?

Are you pleased he's back or displeased?

Good question Joe.
At least he livens the old rag up, even if he likes all the kit I don't and vice versa.
I s'pose I miss the cantankerous old f***er!
Regards

I missed him too - someone jogged me just as I pulled the trigger.

C'mon Adam. He may be a t*at, but at least he's entertaining, unlike the current crop writing for Hi-Fi News. It is so soporific these days that it could be prescribed for insomniacs!

Well, if you stopped wasting your pocket money on HFN, you'd soon have enough for that Aro - which is a whole lot more entertaining!

An excellent point, James and well taken. Although I'm currently saving for a service on my 72/140 and have been in discussion with Sheila!

A reviewer is like prison sex - we want less, not more.

and you're still buying the comic. Taxes are the only things you have to pay. with hifi comix, you can vote with your feet.

So what else is knew!?!?!?
Would anyone expect Kessler to write anything else about SF? Or Quad? Or Mcintosh? Or "valvey", fluffy, sweetie, "warmie" kit?
Kessler entertaining? I'd describe him as boring.

You're all right, of course. I buy the magazine out of a morbid curiosity, or habit, or some compulsion to torture myself with terminal dullness.
I should stop really and spend my money on records instead!
Thanks to all for trying to anchor me back in reality!

Well he's bumptious, opinionated and unpragmatic, so clearly qualifies as an honorary forum member! One thing he did for me though was point me at some decent music that I would otherwise have missed. His disdain fror classical music is just boorish, but he does like his blues and classic rock, and in that area I came to trust his taste.

I love him already as I am teeth grinding waiting for the delivery of these speakers.

March edition - But he is a Misogynistic old fart. It galls me to think that I'm subsidising him in any way.
Of the Guarneri he says "The Guarneri is still pretty enough to silence bitchy wives" but I suppose this builds on his last column thinking of Las Vegas hookers or something.
That's the female audience reaching for their coats then....

Ahh... here it is. Another disappearing thread. Why is the Naim forum the only forum I've ever seen that doesn't put a 'this topic has been moved' marker on it's original place with a link for one or two days?...

Kessler is an arrogant hypocrit, but I am grateful to him for being personally rude to me when I challenged him as I have never bought a hi-fi magazine since.

Agree with him or not, Kessler is certainly entertaining, he can actually write in English and be grammatically correct. Something severely lacking in journalism these days.
He'll never be able to match up to the wonderfully cantankerous, erudite and articulate late Mr.LJK Setright though.

Hifi magazines should be kept close to hifi cisterns. One wouldn't want one's mind to wander in one's smallest purpose-built room.
