DVD/HD Recorder Suggestions?

Posted by: mart h on 11 May 2006

Hi there,

I am looking to buy a new HD recorder( recording to DVD will be handy, but not 100% necessary - we will have new DVD formats soon anyway).

I am interested in one that has Freeview/digital converter built in so I can record directly from it and also HDMI out.

My main concern is the HD size I will need - currently 250GB seems fine, but I have read that when we have HD TV, 1 hr recorded will need 12GB of storage space.

I want something that will last a few years so am not sure if I should buy now, or wait until there are larger HD versions out there.

Any advice?

Many thanks,

Martin

If you only want to make the odd DVD recording perhaps a freeview HD recorder with a PC connection may be better bet. Most have twin tuners so you can record 1 and watch another, record 2 or if 2 channels are on the same multiplex record 2 and watch another.

If you want to record to DVD you transfer to PC, edit and burn. I have a Topfield 5800 but there are other machines that let you do this (around £250 - £300)

Most software is free but you may need to buy editing/burning software to make life easier.
