Advice requested- Desktop system
Posted by: saphorah on 04 February 2010
Hello,
I would like to set up a Naim system at my work office so that I can hook up the wadia 170I ipod dock and my work pc to play from window media player.
Up to now I had the Cary xciter headphone amp and xciter dac which worked fine. The sound was good and much better than from pc alone.
I have a full naim system at home and would like to bring the naim sound into my work environment via my Grado GS1000i headphones
I have had a few thoughts on set-up, as follows:
1. Naim Uniti
2. Naim UnitiQute (due out soon in Canada)
3. Naim Dac and headline
Which option from above would give me the best for the dollar. Just want to listen to ipod thru the wadia dock (lossless files- 16bit/44.1 to 48 whatever) or even some of the high res 24/96 stuff on ipod or from the pc via windows media player.
Since it's a work computer I cannot install new softare as I.T. will not allow it.
Do all options take in usb connection strait from my pc like my former Cary dac did?
Right now option 3 seems good as I would benefit from a standalone/dedicated dac and headphone amp. The performance should be better than the other options. Most important I can always take it home and use it on my home system.
Don't necessarily need the cd player portion but the radio part would be nice form other option.
Confusing.....after all it did take me a while to get to the level of Naim for my home set-up
Any advice/experiences would be really appreciated.
Thanks everyone
