Byuing Blu-ray "on-line" v "HMV"

Many prices on "amazon" for example, are significantly cheaper than at "HMV". eg Close Encounters 30th Aniversay edition at about £12 on line v £25 at HMV; Bleak House at £18 on line v £25 at HMV. Plenty of others, too numerous to quote.

Are there any drawbacks to buying online? eg do you get factory rejects or poorer quality ??

Cheers

Shouldn't be, in theory, any drawback at all Don...

I agree on the price differences. Also on versions available - I recently bought Bladerunner BD from Amazon.com, as the standard US version is a 5 disc set, whereas the UK is 3. It didn't cost much extra for the disc and to have it shipped to the UK in 7 days than the standard UK version on the shelves in the shops....

Only thing I do miss, is handling discs at the shops - one thing I have never liked about internet shopping in general.

Buy nearly all of mine from Amazon UK, better selection than in-store. Always go the the supersaver delivery (free) and it usually arrives within 3/4 days

No problem buying on Amazon Don - I get most of my Blu-Ray discs from them too.

I pre-ordered "Slumdog Millionaire" (a great film by the way) which is officially released today but I got it on Saturday.

I really don't know why the High Street shops are pricing Blu Rays so high - it's like they're not really interested in stocking them. Perhaps the market needs to grow a bit first.

I purchase virtually all my discs from play.com - great service and prices. Has never been a problem.

I buy almost all my books, CDs, DVDs and BDs online and have never had a problem. They're generally far cheaper and you get a better selection. I mainly use Play and Amazon, but HMV are also pretty cheap, far cheaper than in store. Caiman are also worth a shot and transatlantic delivery often takes no more than 3 or 4 days. Movietyme.com is a good source for US BDs not yet available in this country.
Go for it!

I've had more problems with shops compared to online purchases.
IME best deals vary so always worth checking for the best price.

Thnks guys for the re-assurance. I've bought a few bits and pieces from Amazon eg books, without problems and I guessed that DVDs should also be ok.

I recently bought a copy of "Close Encounters" 30th Aniversary Ultimate Edition Blu-ray from HMV. It came in an outer carton containing the two DVDs in an inner fold-out package and also contained a small booklet and a fold-out poster. Cost £25 in Basingstoke. Other branches of HMV, I have since noticed, sell a standard Blue-ray plastic container with the two DVDs, but no booklet or poster. Still at £25.

Amazon seems to be a bit hit-miss depending on which "feedback" you read. Some get the book and poster, others just the DVDs.

Made me wonder if the quality of the actual DVDs was also variable aka vinyl (Holland, Germany usually good; Greece, Spain etc usually poor)

Cheers

Amazon are currently doing a 3 for 2 promotion on selected titles.A good excuse to top up your blu-ray collection
