You might also want to try the eponymous Kate Rusby and Kathryn Roberts (Pure records PRCD 01) which is their first and in many ways best.

June Tabor, sublime.

I found Kate Rusby on a late night BBC4 concert whilst flipping channels. Consequently, had a very late night followed by a purchase of the majority of her releases.

Thanks Nigel - I'll check that out too. I liked the sample Fred pointed me at. Kate sounds another really excellent folk singer.

Has anyone heard of Angie Palmer. She's currently touring pubs and folk clubs mainly in the North West of England with violinist/guitarist Richard Curran. I recommend her album "Road" but she's also amazing live. Saw her in the John O Gaunt in Lancaster last week. Music so good it brought goosebumps!
Try listening to samples on her website (I hope this link works)

Here's a partial list from my collection:
Debbie Adshade, Mike Audet, David Baerwald, Devendra Banhart, Iva Bittova, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, Norman Blake, James Carter & The Prisoners, Tracy Chapman, Bruce Cockburn, Susan Cogan, Shawn Colvin, The Cox Family, Cranston, Lori Cullen, Ani DiFranco, Nick Drake, The Duhks, Evans and Daherty, Faun Fables, Fairfield Four, Christine Fellows, Laura Fernandez, Gary Fjellgaard, Stephen Foster, Jason Fowler, Lennie Gallant, Howard Gladstone, Bruce Guthro, Hank Dogs, Sarah Hannah, Sarah Harmer, Emmylou Harris, Lynn Harrison, John Hartford, Robin Holcomb, Roscoe Holcomb, Glen Hornblast, The Irish Descendants, Iron & Wine, K.C. Kelly, Terry Kelly, Dan Kershaw, Chris Thomas King, Joey Kitson, Sam Larkin, Rob Lamothe, Gregg Lawless, Alison Krauss, Gregg Lawless, Lisa Loeb, Francis Marchildon, Harry McClintock, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, McGinty, Ian Mckinnon, Matt Minglewood, Elizabeth Mitchell, Joni Mitchell, Modobo, Jory Nash, Joanna Newsom, Ian North, Leah Peasall, Grant-Lee Phillips, Rita And Mary Rankin, Michelle Rasky, Serena Ryder, Stan Rogers, Kate Rusby, Linda Saslove, Jonathan Seet, Ron Sexsmith, Simon & Garfunkel, Tannis Slimmon, Elliott Smith, Lauri Smith, Spirit of the West, Ralph Stanley, The Stanley Brothers, Sufjan Stevens, Sweet Absalon, Kurt Swinghammer, Chaim Tannenbaum, Julian Taylor, Valdy, Loudon Wainwright III, Martha Wainwright, M. Ward, Gillian Welch, Jim White, The Whites, Peter Wildman, Victoria Williams, Jesse Winchester, Wyrd Sisters, James Yorkston and the Athletes, Noah Zacharin
There are likely a few more, and I'll admit that some of these are due to their appearance on compilations, rather than complete albums for each.
Many of these are local Toronto artists who I often see live. Their CDs are released independently, so some of them are available on the net, and some are not. Of these, I would highly recommmend Jory Nash and Lori Cullen.
Also, I consider "Folk" to include a Traditional, Alt, Contemporary, Celtic, Bluegrass, High Mountain, and a bunch more than I can't be bothered to dredge from my memory.

Deon,
if you like "Bimbling" do you have Martha's album as part of Mouse?
Mouse - Tales
Never heard of it and probably wouldn't have found it on my own. Thanks very much, I'll definitely check it out.
I saw Martha Tilston and band at Guilford last year, I thought it was excellent. Me and about
25 other people with excellent taste.
