Olympus SP 700 digital compact. Any comments?

Olympus SP 700 digital compact.
Saw that Jessops have these down to £200. 6megapixels,3" viewing screen 3x real zoom seemed quite a lot for the money.
Any one have any insights about these?
Thanks.

Before we begin, do you want constructive opinions or 75 replies ending with humour and abuse?

I was hoping for the former. I suspect the later will actually happen.

Howard,

I haven't used the 700, but I'm not crazy about viewfinderless cameras. LCD screens are useful for reviewing pix but not composing in my experience.

I have used a similar model and found it relativly easy to use with good picture quality. However, I would also look at the Hasselblad H2D-39 Camera Kit shown here

at £18,000 it is a little more exspensive but I am sure you will be pleased with the results. You can get one here .

Kind regards

I pick up the Hasselbad on the way back from getting the 555,552 and 500 then.

Steve is that price a special somewhere or are they down to that generally?

Nikon D50 - I'm looking to buy one sometime soon.....so have been doing the research.....

£425 will get you the body and kit lens here - www.warehouseexpress.com

Our local Costco has the silver body version (which I'm not so keen on) and the same lens for £422, good old Costco - it's bloody fatal having one on your doorstep!!

I've got £100 of vouchers though so am probably going to go high street retailer - and try and get a case or something into the bargain....

From all the research I've been doing though, the D50 is coming out the winner at this price range.....

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Ali

Thanks Ali and others.I've been thinking maybe a DSLR is the way to go.
My son and I both have Canon, mine T70 his EOS 500 with a variety of lenses and were wondering ifany of the lenses we have could be used with a digital EOS body? I'll get lens details and maybe start another thread methinks.

Regards

I had a Nikon Coolpix that broke after a very small drop onto a wooden floor, and now my wife has dropped hers onto a table (6"?) and it now has failure with the lens mechanism. These Nikons seem to be extremely fragile and now I'm searching Google for a known fix, all I'm finding is reports of how they all pack up after 2 years. Whatever you do - avoid Nikon cpmpacts.
I think I need to look for something more robust.
In the old days, I had an Olympus OM1 that I put on the floor at a gig (I know!!) and it got accidently kicked into the crowd. It was trampled and kicked before I rescued it, but it didn't get harmed in any way. My OM2 has a bashed in corner and a small indentation on the prism housing - but again no harm done.
What I'm saying is, for goodness sake, check on the web to see how robust whatever you choose is.
