Nice article, interview and photograph in todays Guardian 'film and music' section. I'm sure you'll know she is curating 'Folk Roots, New Routes' at the Southbank Centre.

Thank you - a very nice article.

I'd recommend

to anybody interested in folk music.

IMHO Alan Lomax's contribution to the renaissance folk music is negligible, whereas Shirley's is immense.

The remarkable thing about Shirley is whilst all of her records are folk records, no two of her albums sound alike.

One again, thanks for the link.

I think that Alan Lomax's contribution, to US folk music at least, is hardly "negligible". You might as well say that Sharpe's, Child's and O'Neill's contributions to English, Scottish and Irish music are negligible when, without them, many songs and music would have disappeared.

I guess that's driving my impression - it is definitely folk music from the British Isles that has greatest appeal for me.

I take your point.

Surely Steve, there's no jacket required Smile

But seriously, they don't even look alike - Shirley has all her own hair and teeth. Hello I Must Be Going.

I did admire Phil for using an anagram for the title of his recent best of collection ... simply calling it hits,

I'm always surprised though when people know I'm a Shirley Collins fan that they say they remember her in the chart with Amazing Grace Frown
